Short description
The project focuses on developing a mobile device (EPR spectrometer) for studying skin cancers, oxygenation at specific subcutaneous locations, and post-exposure biodosimetry. The device will enable the examination of skin cancers with an effective level that allows for early diagnosis. Additionally, it will facilitate oxygenation measurement, which is crucial for effective cancer treatment, as well as assessment of the amount of nuclear radiation absorbed by the examined individual.
The main Objectives
- Development of a prototype version of the EPR spectrometer
- Design of an advanced/modernized version of the EPR spectrometer
- Development and validation of the mobile EPR spectrometer
- Participation in industry trade fairs and events, both domestically and internationally
Target Audience
The main target groups are:
Scientific and clinical centers involved in research on skin cancers and monitoring oxygen levels in tumors.
Research institutions and companies conducting studies related to determining radiation exposure levels in individuals through post-exposure methods. This is particularly important in cases of nuclear power plant disasters or the use of nuclear weapons.
Goals
Outcome of R&D Work:
A device (EPR spectrometer) will be developed as a result of the R&D work, enabling:
- Skin cancer research with high efficacy, allowing for the early diagnosis of cancers.
- Measurement of oxygenation levels – tumor oxygenation is a critical factor in therapy and malignant progression. The device will enable oxygenation measurements, which are key to effective cancer treatment.
- Measurement of absorbed ionizing radiation dose (dosimetry) – i.e., the study of the amount of nuclear radiation absorbed by an individual.
Project Results
Product innovation in the form of a mobile EPR spectrometer designed for the study of skin cancers, oxygenation in selected subcutaneous areas, and dosimetry of absorbed radiation.
The mobility of the device will improve access to this type of testing for individuals regardless of their level of disability. The mobile EPR spectrometer will be easy to transport to any location. This will enable tests to be performed at the patient’s location, regardless of their level of mobility. It will be possible to bring the spectrometer to the bedside of a patient who cannot move.
Geographical diversification of the Applicant’s sales markets – entering new international markets with the following products:
a) EPR Spectrometer;
b) ERI Duo – a device for imaging and spectroscopy;
c) eSPECT+ – the world’s only solution allowing for a rapid increase in spectrometer sensitivity in the X-band.
